truck sometimes wont start

Sometimes, my truck wont start. It just cranks and cranks. Then when u recycle the key it will start. Sometimes it will do it two times in a row but not all the time. And when it does do it its completely random. It doesnt show any codes. It will go to the dealer next week if its not something simple. Other than that the truck runs fine. I think it is something electrical. Please help, thanks guys

My 1st guess would be it is the grid heater not coming on sometimes and when you recycle the key it works the next time . My second guess would be the lift pump .

I thought the grid heater at first too but it does it even if its hot. Is there any other way to tell for sure if it is the lift pump. And if it is will I do any damage to anything else if the lift pump goes bad? Thanks

The LP can be checked with a fuel pressure gage at the filter . If that checks ok then my next stop would be the FCA (fuel control actuator ) on the side of the injection pump . I think you can pretty much rule out the grid heater if it does it when then engine is warm . It almost has to be something in the fuel system in my book . When cranking is there any smoke coming out the exhaust ?

well im not completely sure on the smoke while cranking. It does seem to smoke a lot more as of recent. That could just be because I am watching it more carefully. Are all these things covered under the 100000 mile motor warranty? thanks

The reason I ask about smoke is if no smoke when cranking there is no fuel getting to the engine . I am not sure on the warranty on these parts , you will need to ask dealer . If your luck is like mine everything will work great at the dealer until you get home .
