Truck Died

My truck died while driving it yesterday and I have just been informed that the lift pump is the cause. No biggy, it is still covered under warranty, fix it. The part is back ordered for up to 3 weeks! I work out of my truck and the dealer said that since I do not have a service contract with him I can not have any kind of rental. Is it my fault that the part is back ordered?

I am really starting to hate Dodge!

Replace it with a pusher pump....Scotty can help you with the set up. Much faster delivery and better performance!

When my lift pump went on me, the truck had 25000 km and the part was only a couple days getting in. I ask the dealership if they've been having problems with these trucks and they said yes. I then asked why they don't stock them? They're reply was that if DC lets the dealers stock them, that they are admitting there is a problem with the pumps Newsflash!! admit it's a problem and at the very least, stock these things so we can get back on the road.

I would look for a cummins shop near you they useually have them in stock. I ordered a spare to carry in my tool box from cummins nw & had it in two days.

How much was the pump? Carry a spare is a great idea.

Thanks

For some reason I was under the impression these parts were expensive, if they are cheap then I have a Cummins shop 30 minutes from me and I will go pick it up.

I don't think it's a problem. There have been a few that have gone out but for the most part, unless you are BOMBING your truck they have been lasting without fail. I believe the 04.5's may actually have a pump in the fuel tank like most fuel injected cars. Actually that would make more sence due to the fuel pump on the fuel rail to pressurise the system to 2500#

I think someone has pointed this out before, but most of the people that are having lift pump troubles live in Canada. I have read the there is a problem with the fuel they are getting up there. When I see posts from folks that are having lift pump problems, all of them are from Canada.

If they ran the normal English system ie: MPG instead of KM & LTRs then those american made trucks would act correctly and not get confused

SuperGewl,
Uh, my truck was made in Mexico. When my FASS goes on I don't care what happens to the lift pump.

Man I'm glad my '05 doesn't have a lift pump!

Sure hope the new in-tank transfer pump turns out to be more reliable!

I have now contacted several dealers and used every friend with a connection to try and get a lift pump for my truck. It seems there are 400 on backorder. I guess that explains why my truck is parked beside a few other diesels in the back lot.

I even tried calling a Cummins shop and was told by the service guy, it is a Dodge part and not a cummins part, call a Dodge dealer????? That statement confused me but as far as engines go, especially diesels, I am green as grass.

I'm pretty sure that the 04.5 has an in-tank lift pump as well. I remember when I was crawling around underneath the truck I didn't see an external lift pump. So, hopefully that doesn't blow up on me.

I would also be interested to note if the people having lift pump failures are or aren't using additives in their fuel. Might make a case for whether or not you should...

Not using additives in my fuel and I always buy from a big brand gas station such as Shell or Petro Canada.
