Triple disc or billet input

Hey guys,
Long time lurker, first time poster. My 48RE front band is done for and is prompting a tranny rebuild. I found a shop here that I feel good about and am going to have them do the rebuild. The owner is suggesting a heavy duty single disc torque converter, upgraded valve body, and billet input shaft. He says that he has had good luck with this combo and recommends it over a triple disc for my application. What do you guys think? Billet input before triple disk converter?

I have a 2005 4x4 with 96K miles. Currently towing about 5Klbs every weekend. Have occassionally towed 12K lbs and will do so again but only on rare occassions. I have an Edge Juice that I run on 4 but turn to 3 when towing and stay light enough on the throttle to keep EGTs under 1250. The other factor is that I'm a little heavy on the gas pedal with 37" tires when unloaded. Also have a considerable amount of city driving but no sleds or 4x4 drag launches (ok..rarely). I may add some more power at some point but I'm pretty happy right now so this won't be for 2-3 years at least.

Just interested in the group's thoughts and comments to help me make my decision this week.

Thanks for the great forum!

Yep, same here. Go with a billet input and a single disk over the triple. The triples have their places but a single is more than adequate for a lot of applications. Your intended use does not warrant a triple disk.

If you can afford it and the manufacturer does it, get the efficiency upped on the TC. That will lower your effective stall speed and put more power to the ground. With those tires you could use some help. Too tight on the TC will kill the power though without regearing.
