Transmission shops in NC

So I am finally ready to rebuild my 48re transmission in my 06 2500. After 274,000 miles, with 2/3 of that pulling 10,000 to 17,000 pounds, I think its finally time. My concern is trying to find a reputable shop near Raleigh, NC. Two questions:

1) any recommendations on local shops?
2) since my original lasted this long, which upgrades should I actually consider?

Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.
