Transmission help/ Transgo install

Just installed a Transgo kit in my 48re yesterday. I am now having shift issues. When I accelerate slowly, the trans shifts through the gears firmly and seems fine. When I accelerate slightly more aggressively, the trans will not upshift until I back off of the throttle. I only drilled the one hole through insted of two for the torque converter lock up and used the stock spring where you have the option for later upshifts. I also adjusted the bands per the instructions on this sight. Does anyone have an idea of what I could have done wrong? Something else I noticed was when I dropped the valve body, the accumulater came out and only had one spring on the bottom. The kit came with bottom and top springs for the accumulater but, the instructions said some only have the bottom spring. The truck only has 64k miles and has never been beat on. I also put my Smarty back to stock and it improved very slightly. ???????

Did you set the throttle valve clearances exactly per the spec's?

TTVA motor went back on then you had to rotate it to the case to bolt it down?

It sounds its throwing too much TV pressure at it for the throttle position.

Thanks for the reply.
I made sure the TVA motor was properly set in the "D" shaft and rotated it back to rebolt to the case. I'm not sure what you are referring to for the Throttle vale clearance. I installed the gold spacer under the part throttle valve per the instructions and there were no instructions as to adjusting the throttle valve. This is the first time I have been into an automatic trans and the instructions from Trango left a lot to be desired. Unfortunatly, it will be 2 weeks before I can go back into the valve body. Will it cause any damage to drive it in this condition? Is it the valve that the TVA moter controls that is causing the overpressure?

Thats what your description sounds like. Did you change out the gov solenoid and transducer also?

The same susptoms can show if the gov circuit is not functioning correctly.

My bad, I didn't metion that. I did install a new governor selenoid. There was a TSB from Chrysler on the 1-2 shuttle shift problem, so I did that with the the Transgo kit. Is there a calibration that needs to be done with the new selenoid?

Nope, plug and pray.

Something is either wrong or out of adjustment. IIRC, the late 48RE TransGo kit had some verbage around how to specifically setup the TV pressure lever and throw. Its been too long now and don't remember for sure but if that adjustment is not right this is one of the symptoms.

Thanks for taking the time to help out. It looks like I will be dropping the valve body again. The bright side is it will only take half as long the second time!

The TV pressure adjustment is right there alongside the PR valve and can be done without dropping the VB. Might be worth a shot to back down the pressure rise and se eif that helps.

Thanks, I'll look into that. I just downloaded the service manual from PDFtown and have been reading about the valve body and adjustments. I'm going to drop it again just to re-check everthing I did. Auto trannies scare the heck out of me. Fear of the unknown.

Are you sure you installed the throttle valve sleeve with the large opening to the valve body? First Chrysler valve body I worked on I installed that sleeve backwards. Couldnt figure out why it shifted late at low throttle, but was fine at higher throttle.

I'm not sure what I have done or not done at this point. Taking th VB off again and redoing everything is my only recourse at this time. I've gone over it in my head so many times my brain hurts. Thanks

I thought this thread was long dead.
When I dropped the valve body and started going back through the Transgo install, I discovered that I had incorrectly installed one of the valve plungers. I don't recall off the top of my head which on it was. It was suppossed to be valve-spring-valve and I put it in as valve-valve-spring.
Anyway, after fixing that, I can say that I am impressed with the Transgo kit. Tranny shifts firm and no other problems have shown.

yeah no doubt Come to mine too lol.. I had to have my tranny replaced at 60000, 2nd and 3rd and 4th were shot the 2nd band was all but burned up.
so now with my new tranny (under warrenty) Im really wondering if Ishould mess with it it has a warrenty as well or screw with it and void it by putting in a shift kit to try and make it last longer till I can afford a built up one.
