Transmission drip

2006 CTD with 89k miles. I have a slow transmission drip...coming directly from the transmission. Only driveability stuff Ive noticed is when im driving in town at lower RPMs (35-40 mph) and it is shifting from 3rd to 4th (automatic tranny) it sometimes (but not consistantly) goes into fourth and then skips right back to third till I give more gas. If I am driving out at higher RPMs, it just moves right thru the gears no problem. And I have a little shuttle shift at low RPMs between 1st and 2nd. Any suggestions recommendations? Appreciate the help and happy new year.

I had a drip from the transmission. Dealer fixed under waranty. It statered again after a few days. I started looking and a hose clap was loose and dripping red antifreeze. It was the hose on the passenger side against the block behind the turbo. If I remember right it connects 2 metal pipes. I can take a pic if you want one

See this thread.

Very common problem with the 06. There was an updated hose that comes with spring clamps instead of the screw type, but snugging them down was the cure for me.

This is good info...but it seemed to me the fluid was red transmission fluid and not coolant. Wouldnt this be a different problem or are we talking about the same thing. And it only dripped 2 days ago and has not dripped since? Thx for help.

I was afraid mine was transmission fluid too and I couldn't find the source, but the factory Hoat coolant is light red. I searched for bell housing drip, or something similar and found this info.

I got my fingers up there, and sure enough it was a little wet around that hose.

When they leak, it seems to be only when it is cold out, or at least that was how mine was.

Anyhow, it wouldn't hurt anything to feel around and below that hose to find out.

There are two little worm clamps on that short run of 5/8" heater hose. Those are the ones.

Look down by your turbo and you will see what I mean.

Both fluids are red. But one feels like water, and the other feels like oil.

Trans fluid tends to be more noticable when you first pull in to the driveway, after you've been driving it a while. Those loose hose clamps tend to be more noticable after it's been sitting a while - because it's such a small leak that it tends to evaporate when the engine is hot.

Either one can leave a puddle or stain in your drive way when you go out in the morning. If it's still there in the afternoon when you get back, it's probably trans fluid.

I forgot to reply and let everyone know the "rest of the story"...I tightened the clamps on the hose in the picture above and it corrected the problem. So thx for the info!
