Transfer Case Help

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with the extact specs for my transfer case. I have been looking around, and I beleive in 2004 they reduced the number of splines on the output/input shaft from 29 to 23, but I dont know. I need a new t-case, and have been looking for one, and trying to figure out how many splines I have, and which T case will wokr. I know it is the NV271D, but there are different part numbers for the 271 based on output/input shafts. Thanks guys.

The D in 271D states the it is for a Dodge. We make a couple different 271 cases. I am at work now and will go out to an assm. line and check for you. Jeff

Yes what happened? I am wondering about mine...it may be whining and it sure has a lot of radial slop...about 2 inches. I believe this is where my clunking is coming from. Any insight?

Im not sure, there is definately somethign wrong with it. In 2x4 it is fine, but when 4x4 is engaged, it makes a horrible clunking/grinding noise when it is under a load. If you are rolling and idling, it is fine, but if you give it some throttle or turn the wheels, it grinds and makes noise. I was wondering because I found a good deal on a case, but am making sure it will fit. The cause was from loss of fluid, and I didnt catch it in time. I saw wome ATF on the undercab, but checked my tranny fluid and it was fine, I didnt know at the time that the t case takes ATF. I might get it rebuilt, but if this case will fit, it will be cheaper, and I wont be without my truck very long if I do a swap.

It is for an 03 2500, with a 48RE, if it makes a differance. Thanks.
