trans temp location

What line is the hot line on the trans front or rear?
If i use the port on the side of the trans what one. There are 3,2 on the side at 45* and one in the rear pointing to the rear.

Thanks
John

The line that goes into the heat exchanger on the side of the engine is the hot line. It should be the front one coming out of the tranny. I have mine in the hot line. Some people don't like this because you see major fluctuations in temp depending on how you are driving and what direction you're going. My thought is that this is the hottest the fluid will ever be so if I keep that in line the rest of the tranny will be fine.
Keep this in mind if you go in the hot line.

the ports you see are test ports. they dont always reflect the true fluid temp. go in the line or in the pan.

On the '04 the forward test port reads the same as the output line to the cooler. Some senders won't fit as the port necks down right after the threads.

That's good to know Bill, I moved mine from the hot line to the pan so I'll know if the drain back valve sticks closed "again" and the tranny is getting hotter by the minute while the hot line is cool because no fluid is flowing through it. The forward test port sounds like the best of both worlds. Hot line temps with overall tranny temps included as the minimum.
You're right, it's a lot friendlier over here!
