I would take it to dealer and tell them the TC clutch isn't working right and see if thery can find an issue.
Ok thanks for the help on this its greatly appreciated.

So do I tell the dealer I saw 250 degrees? Or will they try to say something like well sorry thats running too hot? I do have an extended powertrain warranty (72month/100k) that was given to me by the dealer who sold me the truck.

I am all about being 100% honest but also want the parts covered if in fact they are faulty.

I have heard horror stories here from some folks is why I ask.

I would take it to them and say the truck seemed down on power and laboring pulling your light trailer over a pass. Tell them you used Tow\Haul and it felt like the transmission was slipping.

That should be enough for them to start looking at things. If they ask tell them what the temp was but don't volunteer anymore than what you felt was wrong with it from a general perspective. Keep your knowledge to yourself so you can tell if they start BS'ing things.

Final thing, though unrealistic, is that your gauge could possibly be reading bad. Definately get the trans checked out, but I have had a trans gauge go funny, then give me full scale deflection towards the hot side. Never had one that was not reading correct, but if everything else seems to check out, maybe?

Dealer thinks that maybe its a fuel related issue? Meaning not as in bad fuel, but delivery as my mileage was so bad. They seem to think to start there first. Guess we will see. i hate taking stuff to them but oh well. Guess thats what a warranty is for.

Dealer said everything is fine that they agreed 250 degrees was high for trans temp but they found nothing. Charged me $100 to tell me this.

Said to hook up to my trailer and keep track of receipts and try to duplicate the problem and bring it back.

Wow. What to do now?

Install a TC lockup switch and learn how to use it properly.

Well, I would say hook up the trailer and duplicate the results. Buy one of those Laser temperature readers from Craftsman ($50) and take some reading of your trans pan when you start reading 250 to confirm the trans is getting that hot. At those temps, with the amount of slippage generating the heat, I wouldn't imagine your trans is long for this world...

I will also look into a TC lockup switch.
