Tranny Service Time

Well she just clicked over 100K, so I'm following the manual's recommendations. I bought the truck this summer, so I'm not sure if the tranny's ever been touched.

It seems to shift fine except for what I think is 3-4 shift or TC lock up. If I'm in moderate to heavy throttle, it slips noticeably then locks up. I'm not sure what could be the cause. Could the bands contribute, or is something else more likely? I was prepared to adjust the bands per the manual, but it seems that some people here are against it.

If there is no way that the bands could contribute, I won't touch it. But if there is a chance, I figure it's worth a try. If it doesn't work, I'll then take it to a shop.

I wanted to post here first before doing something ill advised, since I have no back-up transportation. I appreciate any advice offered.

Should change filter and pan oil every 30,000 miles ( I do it every 20,000)......don't touch the bands......and say no to flushes.

Why is it that you recommend not touching the bands? Just trying to learn something here.....

Anyone have any ideas regarding the slip?

I'm hoping it's not a sign of a more troubling problem. Also not sure if a band has anything to do with TC lock up.

I have the number of a guy that installs for Goerend here in FL. I think I'll give him a call.

Some people will disagree with me on band adjustment. It's not just the bands that may need a simple adjustment. A lot of people do them, and those same people are in fairly quickly to give even more money to the tranny shop

I talked to the guy and he suggested that it was likely a clutch pack. He said it's common with heavy towing. When I bought the truck this summer, it had rails in the bed, so I'm guessing it has done some heavy hauling before. I have an appointment in January to have him look at it, so we'll see. I'll be sure to baby it until then.
