Tranny Questions

I just bought (today) 2004 2500 CTD with an auto tranny. Engine performance seems correct, however the tranny doesn't seem to shift correctly, it has no overdrive unless 3000 RPM's at 70 mph is correct, it doesn't downshift at stoplights and doesn't downshift with aggressive throttle input. It still has factory warranty (only 52000 miles). I can only tell for sure it shifts if I do it manually. Also, When putting it in park, you have to move the selector reverse to park several times to get it to indicate it's in Park or it will not restart although mechanically it is in Park. Have I been screwed or do these problems sound fixable or am I just gonna hate this new truck. Thanks for any replies.

Get the codes read. I bet it shows the gov pressure sensor has died.
Also get the shift linkage adjusted.
Driving it the way it is is hurting it.
