The last two days I've been towing around 6k-8k in stop and go traffic. I've done this several times but it seems higher than usual. Anyway two days ago it slowly raised to 220*(never seen it that high) and then on to 250* for 5mins and then rapidly fell back to 190* and then started all over again. Fluid was changed 20k ago and looks okay, so what is the cheapest to cool things down or is the tranny on its way out?

 

Where is your temp sensor? If it's in the hot line, I'd say don't worry....If it's in the pan, then start worrying...

What are the ambient temps where you are at?

You can also shift into neutral when at a stop light. Fluid will still flow but the tc will stop generating heat for the minute or two.

you have a problem with the gauge,etc i have two isspro tranny temp gauges- one in the hot line, the other in the pan- both gauges are less than 4 months old. i have had one sender and two amp boxes replaced. my gauge started to act funny last week. would read correctly then shoot up 30 degrees, stay there for minute or two then drop right back to the correct reading- called diesel manor- they told me it was the amp box-the new one has arrived- have not put in yet. i got rid of my autometer gauges because i had nothing but problems with them- i don't think isspro is much better!

 

The ambient temps have been in the 90's and my temp sender is in the hot line.

I will call Diesel Manor as I think its the gauge because today the needle started to bounce between 100* and 110*. Thanks for the advise!

 

Isspro isn't that great as far as I'm concerned because my temp gauge has never worked. When I can I'll change to VDO, Autometer or something better.

 

check connections in the wires going to the sensor especially but i suppose all the others as well. I had the same problem with my tranny gauge and it turned out to be a lose wire or two.
