Also think the asking price on new is a little high but also think your trade value is quite good for year of truck. If you don't need to trade, maybe keep a good Ford (can't believe I said that) and see shat kind of price they give you without a trade. Either sell it outrite or keep it as finances dictate to you. I bought my 07 quad cab for $35K and they gave me $25K on my 04.5 at 70000 miles in trade this past April if that pricing helps you a little but the Mega cab you are looking at is a little more demand so priced a little higher. As above the 10K off MSRP is a reasonable goal though.

Sounds like they're gonna rip you on the trade and not give you much for the powerstroke. What are those kind of powerstrokes with roughly your mileage and options going for used in the local classifieds? You should be able to get the new 5.9 for $10 under sticker that's including taxes, tags, etc now subtract what you think you could get for the 7.3 truck from that and there's your fair market price. The dealer's not going to want to do that though. They like to rip people on trade-ins. I suggest you keep the deals seperate and private sale the 7.3 then go make an on offer on the 5.9 buying it straight up. If you don't have the patience for waiting around on private buyers for the 7.3 then take it to a (or many different) Ford dealer(s) and ask them if they'll give you wholesale price for it. If they will grab the cash and run for the door. Check kelleybluebook for all the different market prices "private sale", "dealer tradein value", etc and get yourself informed. He who has the most information wins. He who doesn't have a clue gets boinked.

I`ve got both & think you`re looking in the right direction.I love my ford, the 7.3 is one of the best engines ever. The main difference is ctd has no glow plugs, gets much better mpg, & you can look under the hood & see the whole engine. As far as everyone saying that ford is the better truck, I`m not so sure anymore. My 06 dodge is my first ctd but unless something bad happens I`m a happy owner. PS I have almost 50,000 miles on it & can`t tell you anything about my dealer- I`ve never been back.

I jumped ship

Thanks for all your valuable input. I made the trade. I now own a 2007 Mega cab 2500 with the 5.9 CTD/AT. My initial impression is this truck runs very smooth and responsive. Gonna have to put a couple miles on before I can give a better assessment. But at the moment I am pretty excited about it. Can't wait to see how it tows.

The megacab is the best designed cab i have ever seen.... I still dont like the idea of a short bed, but it has not been a real problem yet.

The 5.9 has got to be the best motor ever.

You'll be happy with the new CTD. They are awesome engines. I too came to the same impass as you did but decided to keep my 7.3 as well. I think it was the best Diesel that Ford has put out in the past 20 years.

Thats awesome, I think you are going to be really happy with your MegaCab and 5.9. Mine has been excellent for 43K miles and expect it to stay the same for a long time. Trucks gets excellent mileage and has unreal power when towing. Scotty
