torque converter staying engaged

Hello, My t/c is not disengaging at all. Does this mean my tranny is done, or does anyone know any thing about this? My trans fluid and filter were changed 10k ago, and the level is full, and doesnt smell burnt..
Thanks..

Mine got hot and was doing it. Went away in 24hrs though. It could be something electrical but most likely your going to be out a TC. Good excuse to upgrade.

I recently had a friend with one acting that way. Come to a stop and it wanted to power thru but it would die.
I rebuilt it and it had the front clutch destroyed. Warped, melted together.
How do you know it is the converter?

I figured it was the t/c, because when i come to a stop the truck just wants to keep going, i really got to push on the brake to stay stopped, and the engine is loading up. If I bump it up to neutral my rpms jump just a bit then back to normal idle. No codes are showing up either.

OMG same thing happened to me last year. Turned out there was a twisted sprag in the TC. Luckily it was under warranty from the last rebuild. My mech. thought it was my ECU, only after I pulled the tranny fuses and it still did it did he eat a slice of humble pie and fixed it. TC shop and my mech. claimed to never have seen this.

I'm in the same boat right now, at 185K does anybody have advice on complete rebuild VS repair and what would a "fair" price be on either?

I paid 3500$ at a shop here in Calgary, and I had problems 65k later. You would think a decent rebuild should last longer than stock. So make sure you discuss that. I think a good rebuild, with a triple disc TC and the proper upgrades without any corner cutting should run you about 4000$ Cdn. Also make sure they use the right fluid, this clown I went to used Dex 6 in ANY vehicle that came into his shop... yikes! ATF+4 Only for the 48re.

I did mine myself. About 2500 with input/output shafts.
I have 125,000 miles on it right now and it is doing great. This is not for everyone, as you need to know the issues with them stock.

If you can drop the tranny yourself id just put a torque convertor like goerends with a lifetime warranty in it first. If its the TC, problem solved. if it isn't your only out a TC and your going to need a new one anyhow. If it fails in a few months you can even ship the TC back and have it rebuilt.
