WOW, sounds like you had a FUN day. Condo - no excuse, you have to have friends where you could get your stuff done, or, use the curb and go for it. Auto tranny flush, that to me WOULD be a dealer thing. I knew there was a good reason I did not want the auto - have to visit the dealer.

I live out in no man's land, garage is too small for the truck, no headroom to get it in, just lots of dirt to roll around on. There is enough clearance to get under the truck with a 5 gal bucket and some tools, I do my own stuff. Old oil goes into the empty jugs, the I burn it in my oil heater in the garage. Gear oil goes into a 55 gal drum outsie the garage. Works great a chain saw bar lubricant.

Jiffy lube, you really DO need to get out there and do it yourself, otherwise it will not get done or done poorly. My daughter took her basically brand new car into Jiffy, 15 miles down the road after she left the place, she burned up the motor, the fool did not tighten the pan plug AND the oil filter had not been changed. You need to know that when she got her first car, I taught her to do all her own maintenance. She's in MN and like you in a condo, so . . Now she goes to one of those places that you rent a lift by the hour and does it all herself.

I guess I was lucky. When I was 14 I got a job pumping gas, today that is unheard of, but then, it was a good job. The owner had a real busy garage bay and took the time to TEACH me how to change oil, lube, tune-ups, etc. He had to hire someone else to pump gas, I got a raise from $1.65/hr (the minimum wage then) to double that amount in about a month, down hill from there. I put myself through college working on cars and trucks, still work on my own.

Dave, how about going to an industrial park on a weekend and do the work there? A supermarket parking lot might draw too much attention, but some place out of the way, if you can't do it at home.

You could even invite some of the Jiffy Lube employees and show them, too. OK, maybe not.

I live in a condo. I have to deal with trustee's and the Phase 2 condo by laws. I can be fined for it.

But I went back to Jiffy Lube today and talked with the manager. He told me if he was here it would not have been changed since he knows they take 75/90 syn and they dont have any of it in stock. He apologized and said he would see what he could do to fix the problem. Well I informed him that I have 7 quarts of Mobil 75/90 syn and just want them to change it over for me. So he pulled me in and went down and changed it over himself. But I am never going back to that place again.

Man - I was thinking the same thing - heck I'd have helped you do it if you were closer.

Oh - that reminds me I need to go change the oil on the Wife's car....

Wait just a minute.I happen to use Jiffey lube all the time and get good service out of them.I just pull up to the door and they come right to the truck and grab my used motor oil out of the back to recycle. No problems at all..

i used to work at a quick change joint. we would kick airfilters around in the pit to show the person just how dirty it "really" was.

but, other than that, i tryed to do the best i could at changing peoples oil. i feal bad for doing the airfilter thing. only did it 2 or 3 times.

i would never let any of those "quick" oil change places touch my truck! first of all-the turn over rate at those places must be high. my neighbor goes to one of them and he swears he nevers sees the same person twice-everytime he goes for an oil change. it"s not worth it! the potential damage they could do to your truck-wrong oil, not enough oil, etc. not worth it! i won't even go to the dealer for diff changes,etc- i do all that stuff myself! like it was said earlier- that is the only way you know it was done right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well the place I like (Lube LAB)and trust sent me out the door. Plus just like at Jiffy Lube I stand their and watch everything. I wont be sent away from them again since I am going to buy Rotella at Wally world and just have them install it. Plus the manger has been there forever and he seems to train people OK and he always make sure my truck gets done right. I have been going there for at least 10 years now and never an issue. With the exception of them not having 15/40 on a couple occasions. They have to hand pump it out of a 55 gallon drum.

BigDave.... I had my oil changed at the dealership yesterday. I got a punch card from them that said the first oil change was half price and if I have it changed there 4 times, the 5th one is free. The first one (half priced) cost me $30 and some change. They really only knocked off 19.95 off of the first one, not half, but $30 for an oil change on a diesel feels pretty good to me. The only thing bothering me, it the little reminder sticker on the windshield said that the next oil change was due on 3/27/07 or 10,700 miles. I am at 7700 now! I really hope they don't think my truck is a gasser! I will call them and get their story.

Hay

P.S. At $50 (reg price) per oil change, 1/2 price on the first one ($30), and the 5th one free, for 5 oil changes, I figure it will end up costing me $36 each. After that I will switch to synthetic and start doing them myself.
