Tire size????
Tire size????
I have a stock Dodge Ram 3500 4wd. I'm looking to purchase new tires and I'm wondering what is the biggest size I can upgrade to. I have the stock 17'' wheels and I want to keep the BFGOODRICH tires that came on the truck I got 55,000 miles out of them with no problems and I really worked these tires. Does anyone know the biggest size I can go to using these tires??
it kinda depends on what you consider "fit" to mean. i ran my 35's on stock wheels for a few months until i had the money for a levelling kit. they would rub a little bit but overall not too bad. the only time i noticed it was when i was parking in lots and that. that being said i am happy i got a levelling kit. that rubbing sound drove me crazy
when you say bf goodrich tires..which model are you talking about?? the rugged trails were what came on my truck stock..if those are the ones your talking about the biggest they make is a 285/70/R17. and those will fit

I ran BFGoodrich AT 315 70 17s on my stock steel wheels for a while, only rubbed at full steer on the lower radius arm. I think for a stock truck like yours the 285 70 17 BFGoodrich or Toyo Open Country are a good fit. If you want the same type of ride as the E rated rugged trails and want a bigger size youll have to go with the Toyo Open Country. I am currently running that tire in a 285 75 17 and love it. The BFGs only come in load range D in that size I believe.
I've got BFG 285's and they fit perfect and make the truck look alot better. They are a D tire, but load rated the same as E. I have no issues towing my 5th wheel.
The 315's will fit, but can rub sometimes. If you watch you can get some Hummer take offs in 315 for really reasonable. So it's not a bad option. In fact...sometimes you can get the wheels too. I have H2 wheels and love them. They actually ride and drive better imo.
To each his own.
