"E"s rule.

In my experience,D rated tires don't handle as well or wear as well as E rated tires do.

I'm sure the next 20 guys will say D rated tires are fine. Maybe for them, not for me.
Well,I'm one of the twenty guys to agree after my D rated Bridgestone AT right front tire blew@ 65 mph. $3300 damage in fifteen seconds. I had lots of flats with those suckers too! This was on my '99. Zero issues on two trucks w/"E's.

I have mud flaps front and rear to help keep the rocks off the paint.

To me, the tires are worth suffering the "sand blasting" effect.

The front of my trailer looks like i shot it with a shot gun. The BFG 315-70-17 would be good for dove hunting. Getting 305-70-17 Nittos this time.

Those Extreme AT's look nice, but how come the 35x12.5-17s are only D rated but the 35x12.5-18's are E rated?
I've seen this with other manufacturers as well.

That could be 1 reason but I think there's more to the tire rating than just the size of the sidewall.
