I have had a ticking,tapping sound coming from the front of the engine it does not make a difference if the engine is hot or cold you can hear it at idle or reving . I had it back to the dealership for them to check it out they checked injecters,turbo,lift pump ,high pressure pump and set the valve clearance and the tapping is still there . the truck works great as it always did ,it starts easy runs smooth and pulls hard . this tapping started a couple of months ago and no one seems to know what it is . anybody got any ideas I am starting to go crazy trying to find this,to me it seems to sound like valve lash but they was done last week???????

 

I get the same thing once and awhile. It's probably injector or cp3 noise. I'll dump some type of injector cleaner and/or 2 cycle oil in the tank and it usually goes away. Been happening since day one to my truck and still runs great.

 

do a search someone else had the same problem after they put a new motor in cant remember who tho

 

There are other post on this. Its normal! Most have it. I can't off hand remember what it is, but most of the trucks if not all have it. Its just some people can hear it, and some can't. I can hear the tic tic tic in everyone. Some are also a little more pronounced than others. All I can remember is its a normal deal. I think it was something in the injectors. Not sure.

 

Mine has done it since day 1. Doesn't matter if its hot or cold, idle or revving, additive or no additive.

I was all nervous about noises and everything but I think I'm almost to the point of not worrying anymore and having fun with my truck.... because it is a lot of fun!

 

as mentioned this tapping started a couple of months ago and seems to be getting louder i am just worried i will do some serious damage by ignoring it

 

Can you for sure say its coming from the front of the block? Or could it be coming from the belt side?

 

it sounds like its coming from the front pump side of engine i am thinking about pulling the drive belt off and trying it to see if it still taps

 

Before you pull the belt, crank the engine and try to listen or focus in to the power steering pump area, good chance its coming from around there.

 

Check the clamps holding your injector lines they are blue plastic with a brass colored metal outer piece. They get loose and tic at least this was what was causing my ticing sound. To check start the engine and put your finger on one to see if thats the problem I think its an 8mm wrench to tighten them.
