Ticking, but not like the other posts...

Over the past month or so, my truck has developed a ticking noise which is only there on the first startup of the day, or when it has been sitting for an extended period. The only way for me to describe it is as follows: Tick Tick Tick Tick Tick(in fast succesion)...then it stops...Tick Tick Tick Tick Tick....then it stops...Etc. It does this for approx. 3-4 mins then it goes away and doesnt come back till like I said it sits for a few hours. I have approx 14K miles on it and it has just started doing this over the past month. Anybody else have this? Anybody have any ideas? Should I have the dealer look at it....which means Ill have to leave it overnight so they can hear it on initial startup??

VERY similar to the sound I have in mine with 151K on the ticker! Don't know that I noticed it when I first got it, but I am more "in tune" with the truck now, and can tell the difference between noises better! Everything I have read and come up with for an answer leads to the injectors bleeding air out of the rail. I can't figure out why it takes so long though - agreed 3-4 minutes. Also I know the timing is different in a cold engine, but I don't think it can build heat quick enough to change the timing in the first 3-5 minutes either. I have a buddy with an '05 that has been trying to hear if his does it too. He can hear mine when he stands outside, but con't tell for sure on his from the inside. I told him to get out! He's a weenie! LOL

Injectors bleeding the air out of the rail makes sense, but why all of a sudden after so many miles? Is there an underlying issue causing this? A buddy of mine has the exact truck and his doesnt do it.

Thanks for the input and please keep me posted. Im still wondering if there is an issue that needs to be addressed by the dealer, or just wait it out and see what happens.

Being ubder warranty, I would definately have them look at it. Maybe even more than once! Just to get it documented. That way, if there are problems down the road, they can't say "well.....it isn't under warranty any longer" or any other excuse! That and maybe you can come up with a better answer than I have! LOL

We have 06's and 07's at work and most of them do it on the initial startup and while left idleing for a while.
