Tell me what's leaking (Pictures Included)

I have a couple of "wet" spots under the front end of my truck. I think one of them is just oil from changing the oil, but want another opinion.

The second leak I think is a pinion seal. It looks to be the driveshaft going into the front differential.

I honestly don't know, but am looking for some opinions. I'd like to call around to a couple of shops for pricing without having to drive all over the place.

I know, I know......I am not even going to try and fix it myself.......

Thanks for the help.

It appears to be a leak in the front pinion seal as you mentioned. This is typical on the third gens. The other leak(s) are difficult to pinpoint due to the fluid leakage spread out. I believe that the transmission is leaking, possibly due to an overfull condition. The pan bolts may need to be retorqued to spec. as well.

I recommend you powerwash the engine and the photographed areas especially well. Cleaning the engine will make it easier to discover the exact areas where the fluids are leaking from.

Pinon seal. I wouldn't worry. Mine never loses enough between changes to cause a problem. The tranny suggestion is likely but also could be the rear main seal. Mine has been leaking little for 80k miles now. Never lose enought between oil changes to worry about.

A bad cam seal will lead most folks to think the main seal is leaking....either way the tranny has to be pulled to fix.

Thanks

The only other thing I was thinking regarding the fluid on the transmission pan was that my water pump went out about 10K miles ago and coolant was going everywhere.

Either way I'll get it looked at.

Any idea of cost for the pinion seal?

My pinion seal is weeping also. Not going to worry about it until it's dumping fluid on the ground.

pinion seal on front axle. as for the others. take it to a car wash and pressure wash the engine and trans. go to NAPA auto parts and buy some oil dye for the engine (transmission dye is different stuff). run the truck for a few days possibly a week. then get a black light and shine around the pan area in the rear. anything that is leaking engine oil will glow from the black light since the oil dye is in there. the dye comes in a little bottle that is about or less than a ounce.

Not sure there is even a leak. The crank case vent is right above the diff and will make it look like the diff is leaking when it isn't. Same with the trans. That could be the hose under the turbo and coolant also. Clena it up and see if you can see where it starts or your guessing.
