I think this might have been part of the vibration i could feel at 1800 rpm

New pan, $112 from advance auto plus $20 in perk rewards to go towards buying atf+ that they dont allow a discount on.

looks like the direct clutch was hot, the steels are warped with blue spots on them but the frictions still have plenty of material. Im not sure if this is another problem or if its just from driving it with the converter locked? everything else looks pretty good so far, fluid is quite dirty. The transmission was run hot for a while until I got the CTS installed and found out the transmission ran hot all the time, ended up being the thermostat bypass in the cooler. I just bought the truck last year and the guy said something was replaced in the trans about 30k before, he didnt think it was a full rebuild I figured it was the front band and clutch. No idea how long it was run with the cooler stuck in bypass and no cooling and if that caused problems or not?

Im ordering a new front cooler without the thermostat anyways, it doesnt cost much more than a couple cans of cooler flush and worth not having to bother with cleaning the old one. Ans the cooler lines are all rusted up so I guess Im replacing all of those too. Im probably going to use hydraulic hoses with AN fittings. At least it looks like the heat exchanger has already been replaced so that is good.

Keep forgetting to update on the rebuild. The parts from transmission bench were great, he was very helpful. Same with dpc, incredibly fast shipping and great people to deal with.

For problems with removal, everything was rusting and covered in oil so that wasn't much fum. Cooler lines had to be cut, lots of extra cleaning on the cases.

I ended up buying a thrust washer kit and needed a new overdrive spring hub which came in a complete bearing kit that I probably didn't need. Next time I'll just order the hub thing from transmission bench, he sells it with the one roller bearing for $ 15, I guess it's usually wearing from the big spring.

I replaced the front cooler with a newer style that doesn't have the thermostat bypass, which may be part of why I had to rebuild mine when the old one was stuck in bypass when I bought it. No more steel cooler lines, it's all hydraulic hose now, I still need to weld in a couple vibration proof clamps for it along the frame.

New trans has a little 2-3 shift issue now, light throttle it will hunt and drop out of 3. Heavy throttle is great, firm and shifts on time. Notsure if it is a shift kit issue or internal trans issue. I need to find my gauges and see what it's doing. I'm afraid I rolled a lip seal but not sure if it's losing pressure or something else.

I'm glad I did the rebuild, timing wasn't great with only half of my stuff moved to the new house but it could have been worse. The next one should be a lot faster, I won't spend quite so much time stressing on every part that has a scratch or mark. If it wasn't for dealing with the rust I would say it was fun. Although I m finding that the stink of atf really lingers.

Thank you everyone for the help.

Several burs on the bolt holes.

No more thermostat

Certification sticker was neat at first but then i found the burs and weld. Still better than the flexplate from advance auto

ATP flexplate, returning it to advance auto. Thought it was tge same as the sfi plate. Unreal how bad it was
