Tach jumps while idle?

Tach jumps while idle?
For about a year now, my tach will jump anywhere between 400 - 700 rpms while idle. Doesn't matter if it's in gear or N. After taking off it will fix itself after a few seconds and reads just fine while cruising. When idling I can tell the engine isn't changing RPM's but it's annoying to see the tach jump. Anyone else see this and is it an easy/cheap fix?

Mine too, this problem is clearly on 06s only so its obviously a manufacturing defect in the cluster ,I dont see why any of us should have to pay for it.Every time I ask my dealer about it he plays dumb, and says it will be about $150 just to diagnose it,there are so many bad tachs on 06s it would have been a recall issue if it were a safety issue. Its things like this that make for unloyal customers!!!!But Dodge is cheap cheap cheap so they wont give in.Without CUMMINS Dodge is truly worthless.

Yep mine too. It's getting worse and doing it all the time, including when driving. I can not trust the reading now. Sometimes it goes to 100 rpm.
I have another thread going on this problem. After Easter I am sending my cluster to "Mr. Whizzard". Google them. I e-mailed them and they think they can fix it and just started a standard repair for the problem where the '06 Dodge tach winds all the way around the dial. Their charge is $175 including shipping both ways and a 2 yr warranty, 2 weeks turnaround. As soon as mine is back in the truck I will report the results. stay tuned!!
I really like this option since no one has to reprogram the odometer mileage in the cluster when it is changed.

Does anyone know what the warranty is on a new cluster?and have they even identified the problem, what concerns me is if I buy a new one and six months from now the same problem occurs on the new one.Mine is out of warranty so I have to pay for a new one.I am an ex electronics tech,if I still had my freq. generator and a decent schematic diagram of the cluster I'd give fixing it a whirl too.Dodge should be fixing all of these for free,a tachometer does not wear out like ball joints ,shocks, bearings and other mechanical parts. It obviously is a manufacturing problem.

Same problem here. I don't even pay attention to the tach except for a good laugh when it goes spinning to the bottom side of the peg. It's like it's possessed...
