Which synthetic oil besides Amsoil??
I'm definately a believer in Bypass filters now though. I installed the Amsoil BMK-11 Single bypass and filled with Amsoil 15W40. Here's the most noticable benefit you can actually SEE....... oil with these trucks turns instantly BLACK with all the soot... If you get it on your hands with as little as 1000 miles on it, and it will stain your hands... I have over 3500 on this oil, and I can put my finger in it, and easily wipe it off with a paper towel. No more staining. This tells me it is removing alot of soot and contaminants.
I have an FS2500... it's going on my tranny....

Below is some advice I got from a trans re-builder about installing a inline trans filter:
Filters by themselves are harmless to the trans IF you can get one that can offer NO restriction to the cooling flow. BUT, as it gets restricted from use you WILL cause more harm, EXPENSIVE damage to the trans. If you feel it needs a filter, then your trans has a problem.
Just do regular service to your trans and change the filter, it needs nothing else.

Personally I was not impressed with "bobain't a oil guy". What I read was conjucture on his part.
On the other hand "turbodieselregister" was using tests that were blind for his logical review.
That said: Any quality oil that meets current standards will work fine in a diesel if changed according to manufactures recomendations. That is why they are published after extensive testing.
Syn oils will probablly run for extended miles, but you need to have samples analyzed to be sure. I tested out to 20000 miles on syn and was still very good. Just thought 20K was enough for me.
Oil selection and changes are only a part of total vehicle service needs. I change PS fluid, brake fluid, diff fluid w/additive, and coolant at regular intervals.
To say that XXXXXXX oil made my engine last YYYYYYK miles gives one bragging rights but doesn't prove much. Wally World super tech might do the same! The bypass filter for any oil will do wonders on color and perhaps more. Color does not hurt oil is a general opinion.
I dislike the high dollar, salesman advertised, and factory test to prove it, about as much as I dislike the snake oil additive industry.
SNOGES has been trying to keep you straight.
experience = 50+ years in the industry and $6.00 will get my starbucks.

I use John Deere 0W-40 synthetic in my 06 3500. Sure helps cold weather starts. According to the oil specs it is a little thicker hot than 15W-40 dino oil so it will work good in hot weather too.
CI-4 verus CJ-4
I put Rotella 5-40w synthetic in my truck. I also run an Oil Guard Bypass filtering system. It is a good Bypass filtering system. My truck runs smooth and quiet. I have no complants running Rotella synthetic. I will be doing a OUA on my oil at 30,000.
Yeah I run Rotella Synthetic. I have no problems with it, it is a very good oil at a reasonable price.
