Switched to Amsoil, now I need to go back. Is that ok?

Ive been running amsoil since 15K, im now at 42K and due for an oil change but I just simply dont have the cashflow right now for another amsoil change. If I switch back to Delo, will it be ok? Ive always heard from some old timers that once you go synthetic, you should go back to regular, is that true or will I be ok? Just lookin for a few words of wisdom. Thanks all

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
A military spec requires compitability of oils. No problem in switching back except the savings, although you will probablly hear some nay sayers, especially from the Amsoil sellers.

Switching is no problem. You can go back and forth on synthetics with no problems.

Thanks all. I hear and understand the naysayers. I wish I could continue to run amsoil, its really great stuff, i run it in everything now, just coming a point where I can no longer afford it, one day I will go back, perhaps when fuel prices allow.

i run and sell amsoil and you wont hurt anything going back and forth as money dictates.....just dont mix the two so do a full change and not just top it off with a different flavor.

How often do you change your oil when using Amsoil? I use Amsoil and change oil and filter every year or 10,000 miles. The cost of doing that versus changing dino every 3,000 is about the same or less.

If you become an Amsoil perferred customer, you get a pretty good price brake.

Changing good Dino at 3k is also a waste. Most guys I know running Delo or Rotella change at 7500 one fellow does his at 5k(I'd go further like 6k to 7500k)

My manual for severe service says change oil every 7,500 miles no matter if it's conventional or synthetic, so I change my conventional oil every 7,500 miles. Saves money, saves time.

When some one says one oil over another is really great stuff I just have to go How does anyone really know for sure? Have never ever read of an oil related engine break down. Going on 9 years of reading all kinds of diesel websites and the only oil I have seen that posibly caused an engine related failure was..............well don't want to get into that debate.

Forgot what the original poster asked.

In the old days it was true not to change back and forth. With todays modern oil additives both synthetic and conventional along with modern day gasket technology there is no problems switching back and forth.

Ive been changing at about 10K. Im an amsoil pref customer, they do give a nice price break but its still expensive. Changing dino at 3K is useless.

I drive close to 3K miles/month...I'll change the dino at 6-7K

I have been told and read numerous posts over time that the Group 4 synthetics like Amsoil/Royal Purple etc.will easly go 15k and more with bypass filtering.

When you do your oil change plug the block heater in to keep the engine warm. That way you can get more of the amsoil out. Then maybe go early on your first change with the Delo to get the rest of the residual amsoil out.

You can go back to dino oil with out any problems. Based on the UOA I did on 5w30 HDD Amsoil there is no reason I why shouldn't be able to go 15,000 OCI's. FYI, at 7,000 miles I still had a TBN of 10.03
