Dodge has an additive you can put in to prevent the "stinky oil" smell. I don't know if it's sweet smelling though.

Check your battery. When a battery fries it can have a sweet smell.

Nope, I just checked, and the batteries look and smell normal. No racoon pieces under there either.

The odor is just there when the truck is running. You think they'd put the additive in without a complaint from the customer? I would think that the odor would come from the tailpipe in that case.

sweet smell.....

I wonder if you have checked the air conditioning lines??? I had a similar problem with a '94 mustang gt. I recognized it as a more alcohol-like, but sweet just the same smell... anyway, of course when I described the smell to my service guy he told me to stop drinking and driving... long story short here... I found that the AC line had a really small leak and that the fluid would drop down onto the exhaust manifold and obviously quickly evaporate, making it impossible to see any wet spots... You said that your dealer did an oil change, perhaps he bumped the line when changing out the filter..

good luck with it....

David... '05 Ram 2500 no mods, just a Peragon bed cover and 12K miles......

first off, give the inside of your radiator coolant tank a sniff and see if it isnt antifreeze youre smelling. I'm 90% sure it is

Im in for the night now, got some things to do in the house. I will double check, and like you said, smell the overflow tank to see if the odors match.

If it is an antifreeze smell, and there are no leaks, what could it be? Like I said, the smell wasn't there for the first 3500 miles(until I got an oil change). I have gone over(and under) the entire truck and thank goodness there are no leaks. Ill check the a/c lines tomorrow. Its gotta be something stupid and I should probably stop worrying about it...

If the dealer topped off overflow tank you might be sniffing that. Full enough
to stink out the overflow but not drip out the overflow.
Pop the top and sniff the tank, just don't let anyone see ya!!!!

The overflow tank has a line drawn on it with what looks like a marker about halfway between the full line and the add line. The coolant level has not moved from that line.

For the past few days I have been under the hood, under the truck, and I have gotten up close and smelled everything under the hood trying to find out where its coming from...if the neighbors dont think Im crazy yet, they will by the end of the week...

No more than usual...I would have smelled it long before I actually noticed the odor.

The additive I refered to earlier is called Mopar Diesel Fresh. I don't know what kind of scents it comes in but Geno's sells it in lemon. I'm just guessing that might be it since it started when you had your oil changed and the dealer.

Thats what I'm gonna do in the morning....call the dealership and ask them if anything like that was added when they did the service. Like I said, it kinda smells like candy...Hey t-boe, a little off the subject, but how do you like the MBRP muffler?

Yeah, let me know. I'm looking for something a little louder(throatier) than stock, but not too annoying. Anyway, I'll let you all know what happens tomorrow. Thanks for all the ideas so far.
