"sweet" odor???
"sweet" odor???
After running my truck on the highway and getting it fairly warm, I get this "sweet" odor coming from the wheel well area and from under the truck after I've come to a stop and I get out of the truck. I've noticed it just recently and blew it off, but now its always there after I've used the 4wheel drive. I have been using the 4wheel drive more since it has been snowing here. I dont notice any leaks or anything from the truck. Could the smell just be from using the 4wheel drive more often on my new truck?
touch the center of the hubs on the rims when you smell it. one hotter than the rest..you got issues with it.....snow

Nothing is leaking as far as I can see...I was looking for antifreeze, but luckily nothing. Maybe like I was thinking at first its just me using the 4x4 extensively for the first time on the new truck. I will check all those items tomorrow after a good ride.
My experience has been that a sweet smell is usually antifreeze. My truck had a small antifreeze leak at the fitting where the thermostat is. Dealer replaced the gasket and the o-ring, washed off the antifreeze, and no more sweet smell! Good luck.

There are a series of npt plugs (pipe plugs) on the top passenger side of the block. Leave them be in place and use a torque wrench to apply 40 lbs. to the larger three and 20 lbs. to the single. It has been a known glitch for years and easy to fix. Next is the clamps on the heater core hoses. All in all a simple matter of preventitive maintenance.
Well, I drove about 60 miles today and there it was again. I didnt use the 4x4, so thats out of the equation. I looked all over for any leaks, and luckily nothing. The odor is very pronounced when I stand over the engine on the front bumper with the fan blowing the air up on me. It also seems to be more evident on the drivers side.
Let me ask you guys this...I just recently had the dealer do the first oil change(cause it was free). I have had the "sweet" odor since then. Could the dealer have sprayed something on the belt, could it be something else that they do during a service??? It just seems funny that the odor has been there since the service, and no odor prior to service.
I dont know, maybe its nothing to worry about, but usually new odors, smells, noises means something is up. Its not a bad odor, kinda smells like candy. Horsehauler, is that the sweet smell you had?
