Sulfur as additive?
I don't know about anyone else but I can tell my diesel doesn't run as good as it did before the Ultra Low Sulfur(15ppm) crap they are selling now.
My question is this. Is it possible to add sulfur to the pump diesel as your filling ur rig up to make up for the lack of sulfur?
And is it even possible to buy sulfur for this purpose somewhere?
Thoughts???

Sulphur is not a lubricant.
It's the process of removing the sulphur from the fuel that reduces the amount of lubrication.
So either run some type of diesel fuel additive, non detergent motor oil or two stoke mixture oil for additional lubrication.

I'm sorry...
How did this turn into lubrication??
My question was, now that the EPA is force feeding the low sulpher diesel fuel on us, my rig is not running as well as it did before the low sulpher content. Can I simply replace sulpher in the mix.
I'm lost as to the mention of lubrication???

His point was that the removal of the sulphur is not the problem. The process of removing the sulphur is the problem. As I understand it ULSD has a lower BTU rating which is why mileage is decreased slightly and the motors are running a little rougher.
Besides the fact that it is probably illegal to add sulphur to the fuel. The EPA mandated ULSD. I'm not familiar with the process, but I don't think it is as simple as just adding some to your fuel tank.
His point was to use an additive that adds lubricity and a cetane booster like Stanadyne or Power Service. It will help you get back the efficiency of the ULSD.

Like MikeyB said when they take out the sulfur in the fuel it also removes the lube that our fuel system needs and this makes the engine run like crap. Also if our fuel was rated at 50 centane or higher as specked by Bosch the maker of our fuel system it would run much better. So by adding an additive to your fuel it will run better be it 2 cycle oil, PS, Howes, Lucas or what ever.
Oh and no you can not replace the Sulfur they took out of your fuel and even if you could it would not make it run better.

Advocate of getting the ban button used on him...
The lower sulfer does not have an impact on performance. It is the overall properties of the ULSD. Like said before, add some kind of addative with cetane booster to get double the benefit. Higher cetane and more lubrication.

Sorry, I should have made it clearer.
Like others have mentioned, it's the process of removing sulphur from diesel that lessens the aromatics, which can cause a decrease in performance and mileage. It's like running #1 diesel or kerosene in your truck.
BTW, my truck runs really good with 32oz's of TCW3 two stroke mixture oil.

What motor oil is considered "non-detergent"?

Chapter President
Just get a gallon of Power Service (white bottle) from Wally world. It's that easy.
The PS will add lube and bump up the Cetane rating. 1 quart to each tank all year long works for me.
