Stock intake mods

A gentleman that I purchased my intake from stated that I could find how to remove the fins and other obstructions from the stock intake tubes. This from what I understand basicly makes it into a Torque tube only much cheaper. Could anybody please direct me to the thread. Thanks.

I have this mod and like it. I also got rid of the silencer ring in the turbo;it changes the pitch of the turbo whistle a little but it sure is louder than stock, good "free" mod!

the fins aid the air turning smoothly and have shown a flow gain not reduction on a flow bench......................

I've never seen any hard proof of this ,I'de love to though, post it up.

I have read though that the baffles and silencer ring where added to quiet down the turbo noise....seems not everyone loves turbo whistle like most of us do.
Removing the guts doesn't have any performance value positive or negative....just noise factor.

I have all of the 'guts' removed and just 30 mins ago removed the silencer ring - must say, removing the ring took the noise factor up a few notches....much more than having the guts removed, which only made a slight difference in sound. I dont know if it made any performance improvements, its doubtful, if you want to hear the turbo - remove the ring.

Anybody got a pic of the silencer ring. is it the silver ring on the turbo it self.
Don't want to remove the wrong part and kill a good turbo.

Thanks
John

here ya go, it is pretty straight forward once you get the intake off. just gently pry the snap ring out and thats basically it. same for 2nd gens also.

I removed the intake tube baffles by gently prying the tube apart at the top end where it is glued together. There is a ridge where you can fit a screwdriver and pry it apart. The just slide out the whole baffle assy and scrape all of the glue residue from both pieces. Glue back together with epoxy and that's it.

As for the turbo ring, I removed mine because it was creased (probably reinstalled incorrectly). The only thing I don't like is that with the cat removed it really makes a whistle out of the exhaust that you can hear sometimes behind the truck while it's driving.
