Stock EGT temps on an 05?
I installed my DiPricol gauges last week. The EGT gauge wasn't working initially but has started working out of the blue. I'm not sure I trust it, but until I get it replaced, it's all I have to go by. Based on past trucks with EGT gauges, it seems to be okay.
What's odd is this... in 6th gear at low RPM, like around 1500-1800, I can hit 1500 deg. This was at higher elevation, like around 5000' or so, but still, it happened. Is this normal on an otherwise 100% STOCK truck??
I didn't think the stock software would allow a one of these to do that...

My truck will hit 1450*F with a small load (3000#) going uphill. When I put the gauges in (800 miles on truck) it would hit 1475*F empty. To me 1500*F doesn't sound right, but I also have an automatic.

With smarty on stock injector aftermarket turbo set on level one, on a stock truck towning up 3% to 4% grade at 75 -80 mph slightly accelerating it wll push 1200 - 1250 degrees. If I jump with the same conditions on it I can push 1400. I have the pyrometer mounted about 2" back from the 3rd cylinder which is supposed to run hotter then the others. It would run about 200 degrees hotter stock, but that is all.
1500 is way too high!!!!!!!!! Either the gauge is not working correctly or your engine is going to cook.

Ummmm..... actually yeah you will see higher EGTs at lower RPMs. The way to lower EGTs is higher RPMs, because the exhaust gets pumped out faster.
Try it sometime... get on a straight road, put it in 6th and be around 1500 RPM. Floor it, watch your gauge, and see what happens.

i have either been blessed with a very "cool" motor, or my gauge is busted, or truck is not running correct.
EDGE HOT, i can barrelly get it to 1275*
STOCK highest is about 950*
PYRO is drilled by #3 side where it bends to go into turbo.
about to go driving to confirm.... need oil change anyways.

I just installed mine in my 07 5.9 and pulling a huge load up 6% grade I hit 1300 real easy. Around town unloaded is about 6-800. Yes, lower RPM's I can hit 1,000 just going on an On ramp...

Both of my trucks are stock...both will easily hit 1400-1450 when loaded and "lugging it"...modded trucks gernerally will show a little lower EGT's due to the timing changes.
I guess the point is you pretty much need a EGT gauge in these trucks...even when they are stock!!!

If you can hit 1400-1450 stock and everyone says 1350 is max - how would you ever know that you were doing damage stock unless you had a gauge. My point is - These guys that have hundreds of thousand of miles that have never done anything to the motor but service it could have been running 1400-1450 all day long on the stock motors and never knew it. I guess there's no definative answer to how high is too high..

It definitely makes me wonder, because I've definitely spent time climbing hills on winding roads at lower RPMs in 6th gear, because it's good for fuel mileage. I dunno for sure that I've been running really high EGTs during that time... I haven't been on the throttle nearly as much as I was during my little test, so I can hope I wasn't.
I ordered my Smarty last night... so I'm looking forward to seeing the difference in temps and also feeling the difference in power.

Lugging it like that I can't see those temps, maybe 1200 or so but nothing extreme. The highest EGT's I find are at 3000 rpm's where it is fueling the hardest.
