Steering box?
Steering box?
I've posted in the past that I've got the DW... I got rid of it this time by installing stiffer shocks but I had a friend of mine just do a once over on my front suspension because I figured something else had to be wrong.
Well, he crawls under the truck and after looking around a bit, tells me he thinks my steering box is the cause of my death wobble and the new shocks are just masking the symptoms.
What he showed me was play in the shaft from the box that connects to the pitman arm. Can anyone confirm if there is any play allowed and if not, is it possible to tighten it up some?
BTW, anyone know how to adjust the steering wheel position? I think mine might be cocked a little to the right.
Thanks.

The sector shaft should have very little play in it. No adjustment on them either. As far as the steering wheel goes you will need to have an alignment to correct this.
Your steering box might have too much play, but that is not the cause of DW. Even if you didn't have a steering box connected, the truck should still go straight and true down the road. Have an alignment done and have them set the most positive caster they can, or you have other parts worn like the track bar. As far as your steering wheel, you adjust that with the drag link adjuster, and you do not need an alignment to correct this.
