Anyone has stright pipes? I had them on my 98 did not like the way it sound. I heard that the 03 sound different.Do you like them or not? Any gas milage increases or decreases?

 

I heard an '03 the other day with an unbaffled muffler. It sound cool when idling and lower rpms. It really barked when it got wound up while towing.

We have had a number of customers go with the muffler delete pipe that they got made up at a local shop and not like it at all. They tend to give us a description of the 'ricer" sound the import cars make as a description of the exhaust sound. You might like it but they have mostly been negative about it so far when they have called us for exhaust systems etc.

Mark, do y'all make a muffler that will replace the stock muffler on the '03 trucks?? I guess it would be a 3.5" in and 4" out.

 

Ok so the straights still dont sound good. What after market muffler should I go with for a little sound?

 

i have a banks on my excursion psd - i really like the baratone bass and turbo whistle from the muffler. positives: 1. sound 2. actual engineering involved specifically for the ctd engine (expansion chamber that does air scavenging) to compliment the performance of the engine. drawbacks: 1. they cost a fortune 2. working w/banks and their people is like working w/BUNGholes. if you can get beyond the drawbacks, i would recommend the banks.

i'm currently contemplating doing business with them again on my 03 ctd: awsome products, BUT their inhouse salespeople are a**es and service after the sale SUCKS. what a perdicament! :-

some people love and live w/their straight pipes - others get tired of the racket and go to a straight through muffler - others have wives that can not stand even a straight through muffler....jEEEEsh! maybe it is time for a divorce ;D

 

My straight pipe is Purrrrfffect! Everyone says mine sounds like a Peterbuilt but not the least bit like a ricer- can't see where they get that ricer sound at all. Roll your window down and drive along next to a big new peterbuilt while it goes under a bridge or overpass- that is precisely what mine sounds like. People give me the thumbs up when they have their windows down next to me, all the time. Friends say they can hear me coming- sounds like a big rig.
Turbo spools WAY quicker than before- I can bark my dually (not clutching it) which I could not do before the straightpipe. Mileage went up by 1-2. I recommend it to anyone not living in CA.

I don't know what kinda ricers these guys are hearing. I've heard quite a few straight piped 03 and 04's and I think they sound good. Different than the 2nd gens, but not bad at all. IF you didn't like the sound on the 2nd gens, the new trucks don't sound totally different from them, so my guess is you probably wouldn't like them either.

This is why you really need to get ahold of Mark at DPP. When I ordered the Ford (don't go there - I know...I know), I was in contact with Mark, he answered any questions with perfect honesty and very promptly for as busy as he likely is. I will be talking to him again about a system for my CTD on order.

 

is it easy enuff to remove the muffler, and stick a pipe in there. ???this way if i like the sound, i could upgrade to a "Better" straight piped exhaust? and if i dont like it i can put the muffler back in? would an exhaust from an aftermarket company sound much different than replacing the muffler with a pipe? ???

just wondering.
