SRW to DRW
SRW to DRW
If I wanted to change from SRW to DRW would I only need to change the hubs? I have the large 11.5 rear already. I have been looking in the Tech manuals and cannot see any real difference in the rear ends. I need to go to DRW since I went bigger on the 5th wheel this year. It's either go to DRW or go with Ricksons. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks
If it were me I would just go with the rims/tires. The stability of the whole extra set is probably unmatched BUT, you aren't gaining any "true" gvcw according to the law/dot. Plus, to really do it right you'll need to change the front, bed (obviously) and the cost of rims and tires. I know no one wants to ever hear this, but you are honestly better off buying another truck.
Pics of the camper? Those Cardinals are sweet looking rigs, we seriously considered a RL model a few years ago.

Front No you do not, just add the bolt-on dually hubs. It is the same front end.
bed (obviously) Why, you just add the fiberglas fenders.
cost of rims and tires. That is a given

So, were you actually correcting me, or just adding in the word "hubs" to the first part, I'm a little confused there

You just "add" the fiberglass fenders and then hack your usable bed when you could buy a color matched NEW dually bed and sell yours with zero work other than bolting it up?
As I was saying, it's easier to buy the right truck. Get pulled and weighed with weight stickers that have you maxed out at 9900 lbs. when you are well over that.
I think everyone's scenario is different.
Some may say a dually conversion is not worth it - just buy another truck. I guess that is true if you have no mods and don't like the way your current truck is configured as buying new gives you the opportunity to order a truck the way you want it. Still need to consider the loss you'll take when trading in as this may outweigh the cost of the conversion.
Some may say just buy a replacement bed to match. Well...I guess if you have a white truck. I don't. I have that molten red (I think that is what they call it) with a two tone bottom. I tried finding a replacement dually bed to match - after 6 months I gave up. Plus - I had a spray in liner and gooseneck hitch. All adds to the formula to if its worth buying a replacement or just adding the flares.
I don't pull commercial so don't care about DOT laws. I need the dually setup for stability & safety not to stay legal. Others may care about staying legal.
Everyone needs to look at their own circumstances and decide what is worth it and what's not. Just my opinion....
Good Luck!

Which ones?
Who carries them and how much?
I have Michelins rated at 3190# and I'd sure like more.
I've heard there are Toyos rated 3800 or 4000# but I can only find them rated up to 2800#. I don't know if a 4000# Toyo will work with my stock rims either. I've heard there are Michelins rated a little more than mine. (I've got 3000# on my tires)
Rickson has a solution too. I need to look closer at that and see just how much taller those tires run. I've got the 3.73 and don't want hurt my towing with a tall tire.

The DRW fenders are addons on the standard bed.
I agree with selling the truck and getting a DRW.
SRW ot DRW
Thanks for the info guy's. Have not made a decision on which way to go yet. I do not want to go the easy way by changing trucks. To much done to the one I have and had it since new. Plus the truck market is not real good right now and 6sp are hard to find. Will probably just change to Rickson on Vision wheels. Thanks for the responses.
