Sputter vibration problem
I am currently driving across canada and I seem to be having problems. I am on the way home and 9 hours away. When my 2007, 5.9l cummins turbo kicks into overdrive it seems to run fine. When it lowers its gears it sputters? Theres no smoke coming out of the exhaust.. maybe the injectors are being flooded or starved? Ive replaced the fuel filter, so far ive driven 4000km but this isnt near the first time this truck has driven like this. Any suggestions as to what it could be? I also want to know if its still safe to drive.
What are your egt, boost and low side fuel pressure gauges reading?
If you don't have gauges, the investment is totally worth it.
Since you are on the road:
- Is the CEL on? You can get the code(s) displayed in the dash cluster by turning the ignition key off/on 3 times. Google any codes found.
- check the air filter.
- open the fuel filter drain, bump the starter to get the lift pump going.
Fuel should really shoot out of the fuel filter drain with the pump going.
(It should be 5-7psi). This will tell you if the lift pump is sorta working at least.

Okay I have some codes that came up on the computer:
P2509
ECM/PCM Power Input
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
P0206
Injector Circuit Open
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
P2149
Fuel injects group B supply voltage circuit open
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
P1755
Transmission Throttle valve control circuit
Anyone have some ideas, I dont really understand these haha
First check for chafed wiring under the hood for the A/C.
See thread: https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ht=chafed+wire
Second, don't know how feasible this is for you to check, but I'd ohm out the injector harness and check for frayed wire insulation on it. I believe you should be less than 1 ohm for each injector.
