Speed sensor over-ride after carrier swap?
Speed sensor over-ride after carrier swap?
I have a 06 Ram 2500 QC G56 and two days ago swapped out my open carrier for a Eaton truetrac on the AAM 11.5. The Eaton locker does not have the reluctor ring on the carrier for the ABS system like the factory one did so now the Brake/ABS light are on. I figured this would be a problem but the true trac is so smooth and quiet that it is worth having a few lights on. Just wondering if a simple resistor could cure the lights being on or if there is some other simple trick?
There is no easy cure for turning the lights out. The system sees that there is no rear axle speed being sensed, so it knows there is a problem when it sees a speed signal from the front wheels. You can't disable the whole ABS system, because the vehicle needs that to make the speedometer work. The bulbs could be removed, but you may even get a P0500 PCM code eventually if it decides it doesn't like calculating vehicle speed from just the front wheels.
I am suprised that your reluctor wheel couldn't be put on your Eaton carrier. It is generally a removeable part, and will slide onto the carrier before the crown gear gets installed. The carrier just needs to have a lip and a notch machined into it. I would have thought it would come from the factory with that provision, being that all Dodges have a speed sensor on the differential.

See that was kind of the route I was going to take if there wasnt an "easy cure" because yes you can remove factory reluctor ring and machine the lip for the ring to go onto the eaton. I was kind of suprised to for being such a well know company with such high standards that they would of had all the bases covered
