I pulled mine because I was gettting a "Chuffing" sound when my rig went into OD under hard acceleration. I belive it was back pressure going through the turbo causing the turbo blades to vibrate. No more Chuffing sound after it was removed.....

Don't worry about it, just grip it and rip it.

I removed my baffles a long time ago but when you look into the tube you can see that it will still cause a lot of turbulence and must surely affect air flow. Last week I installed my Air Flow Systems rubber elbows and 4" intake tubing and got rid of the stock stuff and man that turbo screams now. We took a little trip last weekend and I could not believe that my wife didn't complain at all..
All I got was a piece of stainless tubing and two 90 degree rubber elbows with clamps. I did have to use a part of the stock accordian shaped rubber tubing to help connect to the BHAF but it was all easy. I'll try to get a pic in my gallery.

Are we talking the black rubber intake tube from the air box to the turbo.? I thought it was just a smooth tube.

Yep, that's the tube.

I can't vouch for what they did the year your truck was built but if the factory put something in there and it's hollow now then the previous owner must have removed it.

Completely different critters there. The 01, or 2nd gen truck, didn't have baffles like the 3rd gens do. Also, the 01 will have the filter pointing aft. Has more to do with the location of the batteries than most anything else.

I've been reading about removing the ring & no more huff of the turbo when quickly letting off the go pedal. I just havn't got around to trying it yet.

Any feed back on that theory?
