Question So who as actually blown up a 48re???

I've seen lots of posts about "this guy I know trashed his" etc. But who one here has actually trashed their 48re?

The 48re in my truck is quickly going south. The transmission is slipping and the torque converter is chattering. I am going to either replace the truck or have a ATS stage IV installed soon. If I left the motor stock it probably be fine but I can't do that. Pulling a 13k lbs fifth wheel camper and the TST box set on 4/4 is what started the downhill slide.

I have just under 25k miles on it. About 15k miles with the TST box.

Drop in the ATS. One it's cheaper and 2 you'll be amazed at how much power was left on the table with the stock tranny.

Mine 2003 went with 40,000 miles on it. After looking at the ATS upgrades and being told it'll run just like a 6 speed with thier improvements, I just went and bought a 6 speed. Much happier now.

Mine crapped out 2 weeks ago and I have babied it 4200miles. Chrysler tow sevice is a joke. The first person I spoke to got my location but forgot to send the tow truck. It took 31/2 hours for the truck to show up.
Woodhouse Ford tried to charge me for 2 new fron tires that the tow service ruined, how do you ruin 2 front tires towing a truck with a bad transmission.
They said the tranny pump broke ( probably made in China ) and this damage the overdrive parts. They did for some reason replace thr torque converter.
I was 200 miles from home. Woodhouse told me that I was not covered for a rental car. I got onto the purchasing dealership and they got the factory rep. involved and I got it all paid for including delivery to my house and they took the rental back.
This was done because I emailed the General manager of that dealership.
I still hate the way this tranny shifts, after owning a 2001 stick it feels like a lot of power is lost through the tranny below 4th gear....

Broger-welcome to the site, and hey neighbor(kinda anyhow.) Where did you buy the truck from? Did Woodhouse wreck the tires on the tow truck or your truck?

I toasted the 48RE in my truck with 16K miles on it. The new or fixed (not sure what they auctually did) tranny is doing the same chatter again with 4K plus miles on it I only have an EZ on level 3 on the truck. Both times the tranny got 'sick' after a heavy pull through the mountains. Next time it gets 'fixed' it will be by DTT. That way no problems ever again.

Angry 48RE Tranny

bkrukow,
Chrysler tow sevice did the towing, after Woodhouse had worked on my Truck for 4 days they called me and asked me if I had noticed that the front tires had a flat and damaged area on each of them. They said that they could not deliver it back to me and that it was unsafe to drive in this condition. I said then how could I had no problem driving it 200 miles to Omaha, only defective brakes could cause a flat spot on anti -lock brakes... They said that if I thought the tow service had done this I would have to claim the money back from them. I called the service manager of Lithia Dodge again in Sioux Falls where I purchased it. He was the one taking care of my complaints. The Woodhouse service manager would not and has never spoken to me about this problem, he was never available... Lithia made them replace the Tires.
I still hate the fact that I need 2000/2500 RPM before I get any decent forward motion with this Truck thats supposed to be 600 FT/LB's Torque all that transforms the energy into heat, heat is what kills Transmissions. Does anyone know if there a Chrysler Tech. Department that you can discuss these problems with.

My Truck was stock with 4200miles on, babied and towed one time for 200 miles. It had not towed recently when it died.

My transmission has too much clutch material running loose in it. When I start it up and drop it into drive the torque converter locks up and kills the engine. My truck is now sitting at a repair shop waiting for the ATS Stage V parts to come in. I hope this will be the end of my transmission problems.
