Slow warm up--NORMAL???

In warm weather my 04 takes over 5 miles to come up to normal operating temperature. When it gets cold here in Iowa it takes about 10 miles, is this normal for a CTD?
Also last summer in the Rocky Mountains pulling my 5th wheel the temperature stayed normal going up the mountains but when going down the temperature would drop about halfway down between cold(140) and normal(200). Is that normal?

Thanks for any info
Ken

if its in the 30's, it takes 15 miles of 65mph driving for mine to get warm. in around 70 degree weather its between 5-10 miles of city driving to get warm.

Yes, pulling trailers will drop the temp. I live at 8500 feet and pull up and down 7% grades often. if the weather is cool enough it will cool the truck. The only way ive found to warm up the truck quicker is put it in tow/haul for city driving to get the RPM's up and get it a little more throttle on the takeoff.

Plugging in the block heater helps.

Put a cold weather front on your truck. I just use a fender cover laid over the radiator. I leave it on when the weather gets into the 30's up until around March.
