Single disk or Double disk clutch
Single disk or Double disk clutch
Im sure it has been talked about before but what is everyones opinion on single and double disk cluthes. I know the double disk is better but is it worth extra 800 to gain 50 to 100hp of rating? Opinions appreciated, im needing clutches soon.
Yes, I Bilieve The Twin Disc Is Worth The Extra Money. I Think That The Twin Disc Is Smoother Operating Than A Decent Single Like A South Bend. If Your Not In Compition, You Do Not Need A Sfi Flywheel. Terry At Powerpartsengineering.com Has A Stock Flywheel Twin I Bilieve Around 1350$. He Can Set It Up However You Want. The 550 Hp South Bend With Flywheel I Think Is About 1100$ So Why Not Spend The Extra And Have Twice The Clutch. Hope That Helps You Out.
You can't go wrong with either, singles are very good at what they do and so are DD. It depends on what you want out of your truck, your primary uses, your power goals, etc. I'm pushing for 500hp but am having a hard time decicing if I want to go DD or single.
It is hard to spend the extra money on the double disk when the companies only rate them 50 more hp then the single but I am planning on some sled pulling and want to do it right the first time.
From talking to SB, given equal HP ratings, the singles are more meant to just hold that load, for "normal" clutch operations. If you want to race, or do boosted launches, he recommended the DD. Can't say for sure that the single couldn't hold up to racing though.
