I had never heard mine from outside, but after I removed it and all the intake restriction I let my dad drive it while I test drove his new bike. He punched it from a block behind me and when I heard that nasty turbo screaming drowning out a loud V-twin it gave me goosebumps. Is that weird?

does the whine not kill you on long trips?

between the straight pipe and the scream of that turbo thru my K&N FIPK echo tube,

it's not that quiet in the cabin, and it's our primary family vehicle.
so i'm afraid to pull it & make the turbo sing any louder.

but, yes it sounds KEWL when you rattle it off the side of a gasser!

Sometimes, I turn the radio off just so I can listen to my exhaust through the stack, and the whine of the turbo.
Of course, when you've driven semi's for the past 9 years, stuff like that doesn't bother ya.

Still might have to crank up the old hearing aid a couple notches.

Not really until you remove your intake restriction. Then it gets loud

Removed My Silencer Ring For The Sound, But Left The Baffles Inplace To Straighten Out The Airflow. No Difference In Power Gain/loss But It Did Wake The Turbo Up. Getting Ready To Order A Replacement Filter By Airaid Or K&n Haven't Made Up My Mind Yet.

I removed my silencer ring, took the baffles out of the straight tube but left the white louver looking plasic in the elbow at the turbo. I also added a BHAF and with these mods got more turbo sound but not enough for me. Would removing the white plastic louvers in the elbow make much difference in turbo whistle?

With an intake it would make you feel young again. I removed my silencer ring and the diff is barely noticable. with an intake these things are supposed to scream like a semi turbo. I plan to cut the baffles out of my intake tomorrow and try it out

I don't pick up certain frequencies in the sound spectrum as well as others.

After changing my intake pipeing and aircleaner I can't say as I can notice much
difference at all.

Back in the early '90s, Dodge had some customer complaints of the loud turbo whistle. Cummins responded with the silencer ring in the turbo as part of the Dodge application CPL. The Dodge CPL is the only one that includes the ring. It serves no purpose other than to quiet the turbo whistle and does nothing to improve or reduce performance. I removed mine on all four of my trucks long enough to get tired of the ear piercing whistle while towing ten hours a day. Then it would go back in. My '98 12v 5spd/4.10 was the fun one. With the ring out, I could play big rig driving around town all day and enjoy it rowing through the gears. Rolling down the windows on a hot day just to hear the turbo between the buildings in town as I shifted through the gears... Yeah I guess you could say it brought back some youth!

That isn't from the wastegate working. It is only open at the set boost level. What you are hearing, is the turbo slowing down VERY quicky (or turning backwards from dumping the boost when you let off the go pedal).
