I have the same issue, and had moddifier added into the diff. Now the shudder is there when I turn left also. 2004.5 2x4 with LSD. are you saying no aam rear requires the moddifier? Would draining and adding new fluid fix the issue?

The AAM rear doesn't have clutches in it, so it doesn't matter whether you use the additive or not. I'd be more concerned that the dealer used a cheaper gear oil instead of the synthetic fluid that is required.

I called the dealer today and they said that the LSD requires the additive. Now what? Didn't have the problem before I went to the local diesel shop (not the dealer) and added the Mag-Hytech diff pan. He added the correct amount of fluid and the additive for the LSD. So what else could be wrong.
40K miles and now problems with the drivetrain...time to get a new truck, and not a dodge. This is ridiculous !!!

It is still covered by warranty ...take it in ... it is supposed to have synthetic with additive...

pull the plug yourself stick your finger in and see if its clean or burned up

if its burned up its NOT synthetic

AND IT IT STILL COVERED BY WARRANTY

the owners manual clearly states the recommended fluid and NO ADDITIVE REQUIRED.

Sounds like a u-joint to me. Odd how it happened after the diff change, but in all seriousness . The AAM LSD DOES NOT require any additive. There are NO, NONE, NADA, ZIP, ZERO clutches in the AAM axles. I hope I do not have to repeat. Wait, I will. NONE . It is all mechanical using helical cut gears. The shudder is more than likely a failed u-joint. Possibly in the front axle if you are only feeling it on turns. If you feel it on accels and decels then I would guess the rear u-joint. Hope you can get it figured out. Maybe someone is close and they can come take a look . Two heads are better that one sometimes.

I would say that adding lsd additive CAN cause chatter in the rear diff if added. I say this because I had to replace one that somebody added the additive to with out knowing better and it came back the next day with the complaint of shuddering when turning. A new carrier fixed it.

I am soooooooo confused with this item. I went to the dealer and showed him in the manual that it says NO ADDITIVE IS NEEDED, but the work request from thier computer says it does. *** to you do now?? I am so fed up with this issue and not getting a straight answer. I have a shudder when turning left sometimes, not always and in reverse sometimes. They said it could not be the gears in the rear because it would happen all the time. Its not a tranny issue, or drive shaft. So what the hell can it be?? I hate to say it but I may dump this truck and go elsewhere and try my luck with them because Dodge is giving me a friggin run around.

your going to dump your truck because the dealer obvisouly put an additive in the AAM axle when they werent supposed to? Instead of messing with the dealer why dont you open the axle and put the correct fluid in it? Its not the trucks fault!!!

i hate to be rude, but your being kinda dumb.

Being Dumb??? If the dealer says it needs it and the book says no...who the hell do you beleive and who is being dumb?? DODGE is the one that needs to correct the problem, not me. I just want a straight answer. Thanks for helping out the Dumb guy who is confused and doesn't know what to do. Ever think of voiding a warrenty?? Thats an issue I cannot afford to deal with and if I cannot get the place that is suppose to know it all then who do you go to? But I'm the dumb one? Thanks anyway for the help??

how many people on this site have told you the axle in your truck requires NO ADDITIVE!!! I believe the book, and guys on this site before i would ever believe the dealer. the dealer is probally thinking of 1500 axle or something.

again
drain the fluid and fill with the correct stuff. very easy test to see if that is the problem. if it is, never go back to that dealer. if not, least you have the satisfaction of working on your truck and knowing it has the correct fluid in it.

i believe this is the LSD in the AAM axle. someone will confirm, but it clearly states no friction modifier required.
