Ya, I am pretty sure that everyone gets that lope to some degree. Some more pronounced than others. Think its normal, but I wish someone could explain to all of us what causes it exactly. Not just opinions.
Thanks

ya... mine gets pretty bad... I am taking it to the dealer tonight so it can sit out all night and they can fire it up when it is cold... It has the long crank problem... has had it since new... Trying a different dealer this time... If they don't figure it out i will just deal with for the rest of it's life...

Does it do any damage to leave the truck plugged in for long periods of time?

I have mine on a timer and try to heat it for about 3-4 hours before I plan on leaving for work. Started up like summer time and it was 0* this morning.

Sounds about normal for a -10 below zero engine at start up. Also what weight oil are you using, I hope 5w for the low temps your having? Last night we hit -29 below zero and I had mine plugged in for hour and 10 minutes and it fired right up idled at 750, but then I use 5w synthetic oil that has an oil flow point temp of around -28 below zero. One thing so many forget to look at is what the oil flow point temp is for the oil they will be using during the wintertime. The easy way to find an oils flow point is to subtract 30 degrees from the oils pour point. In fact I wish all oils came with oil flow point and not pour point as that is somewhat misleading IMHO.

Everyone here is posting that they had thiers plugged in. WITHOUT it plugged in, and COLD temps. 50 degrees is not cold. 30 degrees is not cold. Hes talken below zero and not plugged in. Everyone will have a minor lope. His just sounds a little louder. To the guys that are starting their trucks in 40 degree temps and plugged in, try it not plugged in and below zero. You will have a slight lope on high idel.

No edit !! You will get all sorts of funny sounds when it's well below 0. Mine has a loud growl coming from the power steering pump. But at 233k it does not lope as yours.....at all.

Worst sound I ever heard was after I started my truck after it sat outside, unplugged for 12 hours in -5 temps. It was horrible and I'll never do that to my baby again.

I hear ya. I did a pack trip in the Bob Marshall Wilderness (nevermind where) on an elk hunt for 2 weeks. My 96 12v was parked in the mountains between 5 to -20 for, well just under 2 weeks, 11 days. When I went to start it, it sounded like it was gonna blow up. NOT GOOD. I also, will never do that again.

Mine has done the loping stumbly big cam thing before. This last cold start it was bouncing the idle all over the place, but no loping. I think they just do all kinds of funny things when it gets cold (below 0 F). I hate starting mine if it is cooled down to ambient temps below about 20. I plug it in at any temp below 40 to prevent cold start wear. Plugged in it fires right up, or if the truck is still somewhat warm. When she's really cold it does all kinds of bad things.
