Shimmy???

I am very new to dodge / diesel / cummins / etc.

My Sig is the first I have ever owned in any of those catagories.

I have a question though, it seems like when I first start off from a stop, when I am not getting on it (like in traffic) it feels like the truck bounces a little. I dont know how to explain it: bounce / shimmy / etc. It only lasts for a couple secs, and it seems to be around 8-12 mph, not before or after.

It does not feel like it is coming from the motor, more like the rear, but I could be

Any ideas? Is this normal? 2000 miles on it, very easy miles. 3.73, 48RE, 5.9, anti-slip rear

At any other speeds from 0-8, or 12-100 mph, it is as smooth as heck. Also, if I come off the line hard I dont feel it, but that may be beceasue I just dont notice it.

I am just worried about breaking my new baby...

Any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys!

Yes, it's caused by the carrier bearing and is normal for long wheelbase trucks. It's commonly referred to as "launch shudder" or "take off shudder". You can space the carrier bearing down about 1/2" and it will usually go away.

Congrats on the new truck! You will love it!

my truck started doing the same thing. It happened right after the Chrysler dealer changed the fluids in my axle. It still has not gone away. I just got used to it, sure is annoying though.

What year is your truck? My 03 did it after they changed the fluid in the rear dif. Especially when cornering. I know they are not supposed to have to use the additive for the shimmy, but both my brother and I added it after, and it fixed the problem.
