Shifter boot leaking?

I noticed a small leak under my truck last week. I took it to the dealer and of course they wouldnt cover under my warranty. That is a whole other story. Anyways the dealer said that they suspected it to be the shifter boot. How would I go about figuring if it is coming from the boot. I mean I know where it is and everything. Is it a pain to take out all the console and everything to get to it. Any suggestions on what to use to fix it. I have read that this a quite ommon for these and the oem part is on national back order.

I believe it was on this site somewhere it showed about a cheap fix using a cv axle boot from a Honda or Suzuki, it didn't look that hard and someone else just used black silicone or urethane sealer, sorry I cat be of more help, just try searching again

So water is leaking into the cab floor? If so, I'd wonder about an obstructed drain on the HVAC case. The AC is active when on defrost, and can produce more water than you would suspect.

If it is the shift boot, it is quite easy to access. I'm trying to remember what the 03/05 looked like, but generally you pull up the black plastic pieces to reveal screws...

It's not that bad to change, remove the console (your 04 will be different than my 06), remove the fake leather boot and the orange leaky one is underneath.
I'm sure doing a search will get you lotsa info, I found these but they're for a G56:

I pulled the fake leather boot out. There is another black rubber boot underneath it. It doesnt look like it is leaking. It is this correct one that notoriously starts to leak. I really couldnt get too deep in to the console removal because it was raining. Am I on the right path?

oops, forgot about that one, there's a rubber one under the fake leather one that's screwed to the floor, take that one off and the leaker will be underneath attached to the tranny tower.
On the G56 there's a bolt attaching the shifer to the business end of the shifter down at the tranny, might be easier to take it apart but I've no experience with the NV tranny you have.

I think the NV is the same way, but it's been a while. The top of the boot kind of slips over the rubber above where the shift lever bolts on.

So is it leaking oil then?
