Serv 4wd???????????
My 06 Dodge 3500 had a light come on today i didn't know it had. It reads SERV
4WD.
Does this have to do with the elect. motor on the trans case? It is a elect. shift 4 wd., **** on the dash. Thanks for any help.

Was thinking about something i wanted to run by you guys. The engine that was put in this truck was out of a manual shift 4 wd, my truck is the electronic shift 4wd. The mechanic used the PCM that came with the engine out of the manual shift 4wd. Do you guys think that the PCM could be the problem since my truck is the electronic shift 4wd? Maybe have to have the PCM reprogramed? Thanks Chuck
From the owners manual page 183...
21. SERV 4WD Indicator
The 4WD indicator will be illuminated whenever the
4WD mode is engaged for either the manual or electric
shift 4WD systems. The SERV 4WD indicator monitors
the electric shift 4WD system. If the SERV 4WD light
stays on or comes on during driving, it means that the
4WD system is not functioning properly and that service
is required.

It's most likely the 4wd ECM, it's seperate from the main ECM. It can't be repaired, only replaced. I would go to the bone yard, or contact a company like Auto Computer Exchange and see if you can get a rebuilt one. Probably about $300 at the Dodge dealer.
You don't start throwing expensive parts at it until you know what is wrong with it.
Start with the code reader, then start throwing the expensive parts it says broke.
Also, FYI from the factory manual:
"NOTE: If the TCM has been replaced, the “Quick Learn Procedure” must be performed. (Refer to 8 - ELEC-
TRICAL/ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES/TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE - STANDARD PROCE-
DURE)"
