What can a person expect? Will it tear my fuel system a new one, or am I safe?

 

I ran it through mine without any issues. Do a search on it and see what ya find.

 

I have used it on all of my gasoline powered equipment and toys; however I haven't tried it on diesel.

 

I have heard it is bad for the 2003 and up common rail because of the alcohol in it?? Then I have heard it is EXCELLENT to use for rough idle or carbon build up on the injectors...

 

big discussion on this subject last week. do a search. it contains alcohol,like many other injector cleaners-using it occasionally will help. over doing it like anything else- is bad. my local cummins shop uses BG products-which also contain alcohol. everything in moderation!

 

I have used seafoam for years and love it. I use it my gas products too and it does a great job. Much better than Stabil for gas storage in vehicles.

 

I've used it in my filter housing 2x to cure a rough idle. worked perfectly.

I've used it twice and it helped clear up rough idle conditions on my truck.

 

It is hard on your CP3 and injectors. If you must use it, don't use it too often. And mix it with a full tank of fuel, don't just pour it into your FF housing.

I use it at fuel filter change. Drain the filter housing and add 3/4 can, the rest in the tank. Cycle the ignition switch three times and then start. Never a problem.

 

Never a problem YET. The alcohol IS damaging your CP3/injectors.

Seafoam is a VERY strong solvent. It works very well at removing deposits and cleaning things out.

But I think it works a little TOO well. If you read the can, it tells you that you can add it to your oil to clean the engine out. But it also says you should do this right before an oil change and NOT to leave it in for any length of time.

Here's my reasoning: the deposits or dirtiness in an engine or fuel system took time to accumulate. They didn't happen overnight. Thus, the best way to remove them is gradually as well. Otherwise, you risk major chunks of stuff floating around, plugging things or causing other kinds of mayhem.

I've had exceptionally good results with products from Lube Control, Inc (www.lubecontrol.com) in both my oil and my fuel. I found out about them from www.bobistheoilguy.com Both my fuel system and the engine are incredibly clean-- no varnish or buildup of any kind (not anymore, anyway!). But the cleaning action was gradual and spread out over a couple thousand miles. Thus, no harm to the engine or fuel system.

I used Seafoam in my tank and drove to LA. No change in injector sounds or any noticeable improvement in idle.

A week later I drove back from LA, but adding a full bottle of Power Service Diesel Kleen. A tank of fuel later I had a noticeably smoother idling engine. No better fuel economy, as the bottle claimed.

Who knows, maybe they both had an effect? But only the PS made an audible difference.

I also would be apprehensive about running the motor on straight solvent.
