Scraping sound on cold start

I am getting a scraping/squeaking sound from the engine when the engine is cold. It usually goes away once the engine is warmed up. Today it was 21 deg and it lasted for a while. It has turned from a squeaking to more of a scraping sound recently. Does this engine have a idler pulley that goes bad? Is there another pulley that commonly goes out?

had a funny scraping noise that eventually got worse and then became an idler pulley failure

not near that loud, you really can't hear it unless you are in front of the truck.

mine makes a noise similar to what you describe when its cold, if I don't plug it in....

I'd try pluggin her in, see if that makes a difference. I also find it sounds a lot better since i switched to synthetic oil (amsoil in particular)

My guess would be idler too. Try shooting some WD40 or something like that at it (not the surface belt area, but the center bearing area). If it shuts it up, you know where your problem is. This "fix" only lasts a day or so.... it is just helping you narrow down the problem.

Forgot what it cost me at the auto parts store - but the part they sold me was actually made in Canada and didn't come on the slow boat from somewhere.
