x2!
it isn`t just the temperature, it`s the amount of time it`s there. Yeah, a honda can make 500hp with a turbo-but not for long...POP!

True the melting point of pure aluminum is : 933.47 K (660.32 °C, 1220.58 °F)
But, the pistons in our engines are an alloy of aluminum with a melting point somewhere ~1450°F.
Other important factors are where the probe is positioned, and of course, duration of the temp. spike.
Haulers run sustained 1300°F+ temps for periods of several minutes running uphill all the time without damage (myself included).
Personally i'm alot less nervous at 1300 than 1400° IMHO
Cheers
Mike

I back out of mine at 1250. I have only had to back out of it a couple of times when towing from San Diego to Colorado for hunting. There are some nasty grades in Utah on I-70. Anyhow, 1250 is where I feel comfortable.

Even when i downshift. So I would like a good answer and not some guess. The dealer cant even tell me other then that the 6.7 has egt's above 1300. thanks
I also have an 07 5.9 but it is built to the hill. I've asked the same question about egt's. Because on pulling some hills in my area I'm hitting over 1400 for about 1-2 min. I have mine set at 1400 max now and it likes to run in the 1200-1300 daily. I've never had any issues with melting pistons or anything like that at all. I cannot remember a time when pulling a hill that it doesnt get below 1350. That's just what it is on my truck. So I would say your safe between 1200-1400. Anything over that would recommend doing it in short intervals as you can. Hope that helps
