rough idle and smoke?
rough idle and smoke?
Guys,
I know this has been discussed and I have read all the info, but still need help.
I too have noticed the rough idle on start-up on warm days. Just figured I wasn't blowing the truck out enough, but today after setting in 65 degree day for 10 hrs...I started up and still had the rough idle, but this time a LOT of white smoke was coming out the exaust too.
As I said I've been having the rough idle upon start-up when it was 55 or warmer, but today was the first for all the white smoke.
What do you all think it could be? Injector issues, timing, etc.....
There has been no decrease in power or pickup speed, nothing..still runs great, but the idle and smoke are starting to concern me.
Any advice you guys can give is appreciated.
Thanks
Greg

My 06 is doing the same thing, I bought 6 brand new injectors and am having them installed today. If you still have your waranty get to the dealer, if not trying to fing one bad injector is a tuff thing to find. I hope thats not what it is, but it sounds like it to me. Last ditch effort change your fuel filter and run some strong addative through it, but a bad injector can cause major issues very quickly so be carefull.
Will have to wait until tomorrow evening, when I get off work, after truck sits in the 70 degree weather for several hours to see if that helped.
If not, I know Don M is the MAN for injectors, but I cant go without my truck for very long. Anyone tell me @ how long and $$ that I'm looking at for the fix?
Hope this fixes but won't know till tomorrow. I'll keep you all posted.
Thanks for the help.

is it still under warranty? the best way to tell is get it to act up then kill each injector until the smoke quits. or have a injector return test done to see which injector is losing the most fuel.
I just moved here and not sure of any GOOD dealers to go to. Thought I would give it a couple of more days and see if the idle stays good and when/if the smoke goes away.
Just not sure what to do.....
Mine still smoked for a few miles after changing the filter. I drove it about 8 miles to the shop, and somewhere in between home and there it cleared up. It wasn't immediate, but the idle smoothed out a lot right away.
Thanks to everyone for the replies and help.....

Yep, still under warranty. Are these tests that I can do or a dealer? I started up today after work....the idle wasn't as rough but the white smoke is still there.

If its still under warranty take it to the dealer, they can check the injectors with the scanner rather quickly. As stated drive a few miles after the filter change, then let it sit for a while then crank it and watch for smoke, and ruff idle. I replaced all mine wed night, its been 12 degrees in the morning, and I start up with no white smoke, and it idles smoother than a gasser. Once again I hope its not an injector issue, but it sounds like one.
Mine is starting to have issues too and I think it's an injector getting ready to go bad. I have changed my fuel filter a couple times already and I just turned over 10,000 miles. It only happens upon startup though....
