Rough Idle

Do any of you fine people have any rough idle situations after starting your
engine in the morning. ??? The enging runs fine if you start it up, let it warm for a moment and drive off. But let it idle after starting , and it sounds like a
clogged injector , or running on 5 cylinders , no codes are showing up. Any ideas out there?? Any of you had this happen to you ?? Thanx, Roger M
I live in the Northeast / Mass.

I have the same problem with my 05. It started this a year ago and the dealer put in the front two injectors claiming the codes showed these cylinders producing weak power. After the injectors were put in he cranked it up and it seemed fine. Then an hour later when I cranked it up it idled very rough for about 30 seconds. The problem is very intermittent and does it maybe once in 25 start ups. I have not taken it back because I simply do not like to wait and the problem is so intermittent.

Now here we are coming up on travel season and it done it real bad last week when I pulled a heavy trailer 90 miles. After arriving and re-cranking the engine half hour later it ran very rough, like hitting on 5 cylinders. Then after what seemed to be a minute it leveled out and ran good. I took it back to the dealer this week and he said no codes were flagged and he was going to replace the wiring harness that fires the front two injectors he replaced last year. I can understand his situation with no codes but I still want this fixed. I think he does not have a clue and is simply throwing parts at it. Injectors are not cheap but a small wiring harness probably would be.
I just think this thing has one injector fouling up and sticking for a while. There is no white or black smoke on crank up. Engine runs great and has great fuel economy.

Anybody have any ideas I can lay on this mechanic. Looks like Dodge or Cummins would have a hot line that mechanics could check in with on problems like this. Rough idle seems to be a very common problem with these trucks and I'm sure it has been cured with some of them. My engine is all OEM stock with 37,000 miles.

Anybody???!!!

Rough Idle..

I'm all ears here too.. have an 05 that does the same thing now and then.. It seems to be worse if the thing sets like 4-5 days and then start it on a cold morning. It always comes out of it after it warms up a bit. I threw in some injector cleaner last week hoping to hit it by mistake if you know what I mean.. maybe it's a MA thing!

All of you more than likely have a or some failed/failing injectors that are washing down your cylinder walls while the truck sits for any extended periods of time. All of you explain rough idle, but is there any bluish/whitish smoke along with it? Here are your options:

1.) Replace the fuel filter first and see if that fixes it. If the problem persists or comes back shortly after a new filter, here is your next option:

2.) Either take it in to the service department at some Dodge dealership that you trust and have them do a duty cycle on your injectors, in which case they may not isolate the problem and will have to troubleshoot further, or you can just save them the time, pull your exhaust manifold and note which hole(s) that the white/blue smoke comes from and inform the Cummins mechanic/service rep at your dealership to save them the time from having to do it which will ultimately put you out of having your truck for that much longer.

I too have idle issues as well but I changed all 6 injectors. The idle problem is hot or cold and does it about 90% of the time.I guess it is just a design flaw
