$12 a gallon for the synthetic stuff at Wally World! I knew someone would chime in on this, thanks for the info. I about fell over at the truck stop when I saw the $31 a gallon price. But heck, they sell plain old Rotella for $10+ a gallon! And a cheeseburger will run you $12 with fries and a coke. Go figure? And they only take Visa, priceless.

Talking

Thanks all for the replys. I haven't priced Rotella T at WallyWorld, but Tractor Supply has it for $6.26 per gallon. I listen to Pat Goss on the radio and he has recommended Rotella many time to diesel owners. Since it's easy for me to get, I'll use it, and I guess I'll hold my nose when I do!

Has anyone noticed that the Rotella T bottle graphics have been modernized? The bottle is still white, but it's now has "Heavy Duty" in bold letters.

Yes. Also noticed Rotella in 2.5 gallon containers at Tractor Supply.

Just talking organic oils here: I prefer Valvoline Premium Blue 15w/40 in 1 gal form with the Cummins symbol on the jug (formulated for Cummins at their specs). It has moly and boron where Rotella, Delo, and Mobil 1300 don't. Plus it has a 13.5ish TBN. Others are 9-11 TBN. It's available at Schuck's for $7.49/gal, (same price as Rotella, & Delo @ Schucks). It's $1 more per gallon than Rotella is at Wally World, but worth it in IMO, plus it's doesn't stink. Oh, there is also a $5.00 rebate if you buy two jugs until June of 05.

The Fleetguard Stratapore oil and fuel filters from your local Cummins dealer is the way to go. I think the Mopar oil filters are 1 step below the Stratapore. Fleetguard has 3 different levels of oil filters. The top level has a built in bypass filter, but I don't think those are made for the 5.9L. The Stratapore are the next best filter and are the best for the 5.9L currently available. They are one of the very best oil filters on the market today.

You can safely change your oil and filter between 7,500 miles and 15,000, depending on driving conditions. Consult your owners manual. If I was going past 7,500, I would use an oil with at least a 12+ TBN. Plan on changing your fuel filter every 10K for best performance (the manual states 15K, but that's too long; engine performance starts falling off at 11-12K) I'm going to start using a 10K oil, oil filter, fuel filter change interval. It's easy to remember and is well within the manuals specs.

I wish they would sell the synthetic by the bucket though!

Try Mystic, Its a Citco oil. Extremely good oil and alot less money than rotella t. Its the only oil I have used for thirteen years in my trucks, farm tractors and combines. I bought a tractor from a guy who only used rotella in it he said it would us from 1-2 quarts a day if you worked it hard. I put Mystic 15-40 in it and it went to using little to no oil at all. Try it if you can get it in your area I get mine at Orscheln's farm and home stores around here.
